CARLOS GONZALEZ
THE1POINT8
Carlos began his photography career in the early 2010s when his interests in film and L.A. culture led him to the world of graffiti and contemporary art. During this period, he photographed influential artists in the field, such as Shepard Fairey, Futura, Kenny Scharf, JR, Ai Weiwei, and Tom Sachs.
As the decade continued, he transitioned into live music and portraiture, capturing our most celebrated figures. Among the many subjects, he has photographed Run The Jewels, The Rolling Stones, Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Elton John & Childish Gambino. In early 2020, Carlos’ portraiture work with musician Thundercat made Spotify’s Times Square billboard for the album “It Is What It Is.” The same year his work covering the BLM protests graced Rolling Stone’s July 2020 back cover, a rare instance where the historic magazine featured a back cover image. He also participated in the international group show “Art The Jewels,” which showed his photography documenting the rise of the hip-hop group Run The Jewels.
Near the end of 2021, his photo work with artist Kadhja Bonet was part of YouTube’s Black Voices billboard campaign, which debuted in Los Angeles, New York City, and London. Then in 2022, he earned a Gold MarCom Award, the Platinum Muse Creative Award, and a Platinum Hermes Creative Award for his work capturing BET’s 2021 Hip Hop Awards cypher, which included a roster of up-and-coming artists in this musical genre.
In 2023-2024 he has photographed commercial campaigns for brands such as Lowe’s, Google / Android, American Express, Netflix and more. Talent captured during these campaigns include notable figures like Lionel Messi, Naomi Campbell, Sha’Carri Richardson, Travis Kelce, Bronny James and more.
Carlos currently resides in Los Angeles as a commercial, editorial and portrait photographer. He also directs short narrative content while continuously striving to capture the intersection of art, culture, music, and entertainment.
